Japanese - LOTE

Syndal South teaches Japanese as the Language Other Than English. A specialist teacher provides lessons to all year levels.

Students have the opportunity to experience Japanese language and culture outside class lessons through hosting visiting school students from Japan, which provides a wonderful chance to practice new language skills and gain greater understanding of Japanese peers.

Features of the LOTE program include: Hosting "fee paying" students from Japan Interaction with "sister school" Mino Jiyu Gakuen Student visits from schools in Japan Every two years students in Year 5 and 6 have the opportunity to participate in a study tour to Japan where they visit the sister school to experience Japanese life whilst staying with a host family.

Syndal South Primary School is committed to increasing the Japanese resources to enhance student learning. The Japanese program encourages students to develop their reading, writing, listening and speaking skills through a variety of activities, games, songs and worksheets. Students communicate with students in Japanese via email and video conferencing. Students are encouraged to use the Japanese language at every opportunity.
